Wi-Fi QR code generator

Guests point their camera and join your Wi-Fi. No spelling out passwords. The code is made in your browser; your network name and password are never sent to us.

What is a Wi-Fi QR code?

A Wi-Fi QR code lets people join a wireless network by scanning instead of typing the password. It holds the network name, security type and password in a standard format that iPhone and Android cameras read, then shows a Join button. RelyQr makes it in your browser, so your password never leaves your device.

What’s inside the code

WIFI:T:WPA;S:Cafe Guest;P:sunny-day-42;;

T is the security type (WPA covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 Personal), S is the network name and P is the password. Characters like ; , : and " are escaped with a backslash so they don't break the code.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. 1

    Enter your network

The network name exactly as it appears in Wi-Fi settings, capitals included, the security type and the password.

  2. 2

    Add a frame

A “Free Wi-Fi” frame tells people what the code is for.

  3. 3

    Print and pin it up

Download a table tent or sticker sheet for tables, rooms and reception.

What happens when someone scans it

On iPhone (iOS 11 and later) and Android 10 and later, the camera shows “Join network”. One tap and they're online.

Free static code

Wi-Fi QR codes are always static: the phone needs the network name and password inside the code, because it has no internet until it joins. That also means a new password needs a new code, so print it somewhere easy to replace, like a table tent.

Where people use Wi-Fi QR codes

  • Café and restaurant tables
  • Hotel rooms and holiday rentals
  • Office reception and meeting rooms
  • Your home, for visiting friends and family

Printing a Wi-Fi QR code

On a table tent or reception card, 4 to 6 cm wide scans comfortably from arm's length. On a wall sign people scan from 2 m away, make it about 20 cm. QR code size chart

  • If you change the password, print a new code: Wi-Fi codes are static by nature.
  • Make a separate guest network if you don't want visitors on the same network as your own devices.

Wi-Fi QR code not working?

The phone says it can't join
The network name must match exactly, capitals and spaces included, and so must the password. Check both in your router's settings and make a new code.
Nothing happens when people scan
Phones older than iOS 11 or Android 10 may not read Wi-Fi codes in the camera. Google Lens reads them on most Android phones.
It worked, then stopped
The password was probably changed. Wi-Fi codes hold the password itself, so print a new code after every change.
It won't join a work network
RelyQr makes codes for networks with one shared password, like home and guest networks. Networks that ask for a username (802.1X or WPA Enterprise) can't be joined this way on iPhone.

Wi-Fi QR code questions

Is my Wi-Fi password safe?

RelyQr makes Wi-Fi QR codes entirely in your browser and never stores or sees your network name or password. Anyone who can scan the code can join, the same as anyone you tell the password to.

Which security type should I pick?

Most routers use WPA/WPA2, and phones also read WPA3 networks as WPA. Pick Open only for networks without a password.

Does a Wi-Fi QR code work on iPhone?

Yes. The iPhone camera has read Wi-Fi QR codes since iOS 11: point it at the code and tap Join network.

Can I share Wi-Fi from my phone without a generator?

Yes. On iPhone with iOS 18 or later, the Passwords app shows a QR code for a saved network, and on Android 10 or later the Wi-Fi settings have a Share button. A printed code is easier for guests and visitors.

Do Wi-Fi QR codes expire?

No. A Wi-Fi QR code holds the network details itself, so it works for as long as the network name and password stay the same.

Why isn't my phone joining?

Check that the network name matches exactly, capitals and spaces included. Some older Android phones need Google Lens to read Wi-Fi codes.
